At Morley Primary School, we believe that high-quality texts are the cornerstone of inspiring exceptional writing. By immersing students in a rich array of literature, we spark their imaginations and elevate their writing abilities. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to integrate high-level vocabulary into both spoken and written work, ensuring that children not only understand but use sophisticated language effectively. This approach enhances their communication skills and fosters a deeper engagement with their writing.
We carefully select purposes that connect with our local community, helping students explore and reflect on the world around them. By linking writing tasks to local history, culture, and current events, we create meaningful learning experiences that resonate with students' lives. This contextual learning not only enriches their writing but also builds a sense of connection and responsibility to their community.
Our writing curriculum is not just about developing technical skills; it’s about preparing students to be thoughtful, articulate leaders of the future. Through diverse writing opportunities, we encourage critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression, equipping students with the tools they need to make their voices heard and lead with confidence. We are dedicated to nurturing a generation of skilled writers who are ready to take on the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow's world.
Writing Long-Term Plan
Please see our writing long-term plan below. We have a consistent, evidence-based approach to writing across our school. All of our writing stems from high-quality literature that is relevant to the topic each class is learning about. Our children are constantly exposed to rich vocabulary and discussion to use within their own writing. Each half-term follows the same structure in each class; Poetry (1 week), Narrative (3-4 weeks) and Non-fiction (2 weeks).
