In Year 6, pupils will make applications to their transferring Secondary Schools. This process is completed through the Local Authority, who distribute information to all Year 6 pupils at the beginning of their final year in Primary School.
We have very good working relationships with our feeder Secondary Schools. Due to our location, we do not have one main feeder school, but instead work with a range of secondary schools and colleges, as our pupils transfer to a range of these each year.
Morley pupils have continued their education at all of these local schools:
Heanor Gate
Leesbrook
Landau Forte
John Flamsteed
Kirk Hallam
Ecclesbourne
Derby High
Ockbrook
Trent College
West Park
Derby Cathedral School
Woodlands
St Benedict's Catholic School
Chellaston Academy
Admissions process
The admissions process for transferring to secondary schools is conducted online at Derbyshire County Council's website. Your child will also receive information directly from their nearest feeder secondary, and information on other schools will be available in school.
Transfer for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities is run in a similar way to that of their peers. pupils will visit their new schools on transition days, and their new teachers and/or Head of Year will visit them at Morley.
Additionally, meetings will be held with parents, and with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) at the feeder school to ensure that individual needs are met and adjustments put in place. Children will have time and support to acclimatise themselves with their new school and procedures. Support could include help with orienteering around the school site, limited numbers of new teachers, and nurture group sessions.
Please come in and discuss any issues relating to your child's transfer to secondary when you begin the admissions process.
