Geography Progression
Year 6 Geography Leaver
Children will have in-depth knowledge of natural physical geography and be able to use appropriate associated vocabulary. They will be able to understand a range of reasons why people leave their homes and the human impact this has both physically and empathetically. Children will have strong knowledge of their locality and the wider locality of Derbyshire. Atlas, maps, compass and fieldwork will be common ready to use skills for children and they will know the purpose behind these. Using these skills, children will have developed locational knowledge around the world and can use specific markers to discuss the world - equator, tropics, climates zones and biomes. Within their knowledge of the locality, children will know local rivers alongside rivers of the UK and the world and key vocabulary. Children will know how we are reliant upon trade and how the Amazon is a significant source of our trade. They will know that fair trade is vital across the world and how humans have impacted upon the Amazon in a negative way. Children can compare Derby and the England to contrasting and similar localities around the world.
