Potentia Teaching School Hub

Morley Primary works in partnership with a range of other schools and educational providers.

In Derbyshire, we are the Lead School for Potentia Teaching School Hub. The 87 new Teaching School Hubs have been set up to develop ITT, CPD and the NPQ programmes to all schools within a geographical area. The government states,

'The teaching school hub programme will create a network of 87 centres of excellence for

teacher training and development, focused on some of the best schools and multi-academy

trusts in the country. This programme replaces the previous network of around 750 teaching

schools, which will end in August 2021.

We have previously worked with the 4 Derbyshire Teaching School Alliance (4D), where we developed ITT for Derbyshire schools. We interviewed, arranged placements and trained potential teachers, following this with the Early Careers Framework programme the following year.

School to school support brings a range of benefits both to Morley, and to the schools we work with. This can be in the form of greater opportunities for professional development, a wider pool of experiences and information, as well as financial benefit. We firmly believe in supporting each other in this way.

What is Potentia Teaching School Hub?

As part of the DfE’s national network of 87 centres of excellence for teacher training and development, Potentia TSH has been designated to serve the 336 schools within the districts of Amber Valley, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Darley Dale, North East Derbyshire and the High Peak.

'Realising potential through collaboration and partnership.'

In this capacity as the TSH, Potentia are responsible for providing high-quality professional development to teachers, ensuring they can develop expertise at all stages of their careers.

This includes

  • School based initial teacher training (ITT)
  • The early career framework (ECF) when it is available nationally from September 2021
  • The new specialist national professional qualifications (NPQ’s)
  • Evidence based professional development
  • Appropriate body services

In conjunction to this, Potentia will be working with the regional and national curriculum hubs to signpost teachers within our region to evidence based professional development that develops expertise and also assists in addressing local priorities.

Potentia TSH will be the main reference point for any professional development required from ITT, throughout careers through and up to executive leadership.

Potentia will aim to make national developments local. This will be through contextualising and collaboration with schools across the region, where they are accessible irrespective of geographical location.
