Morley Primary is 140 years old! Originally sited about a mile away across the fields, it was founded as a Dame School by Emma Darwin of Breadsall Priory, who was the aunt of the great English naturalist, Charles Darwin. We opened on our current site in 1881.
10 years ago, when we celebrated our 130th birthday, we planted a time capsule in the garden. This year, we spent the day as Victorians. We had lessons such as our school friends would have done 100 years ago. We picnicked outside with our Victorian style lunches (for which we had researched via a very non-Victorian internet), then enjoyed a magic show, Punch and Judy, and Victorian parlour games. We finished the day with assembly, and the story of Miss Marsland's Great Grandmother's rocking chair, which is exactly the same age as our school.
